Oh the locks are finally getting long. Who cares that I’m not even sure that I suit longer hair or even if especially want long hair but I find myself getting very precious about the length. Ongoing battles with my long-suffering hairdresser ensue but that’s another story. So imagine my horror on discovering a plethora of split ends. Disaster darling.
I’ve recently discovered Fat Hair “0” Calories, amazing products for my fine, lank hair. I’m not convinced that they thicken or amplify as claimed but they certainly don’t weigh my hair down. However what the Fat Hair range and my frazzled barnet are missing is a heat protecting spray. I know it’s weird but I find it surprisingly therapeutic snipping off the split ends one by one with some tiny nail scissors but at this rate I’ll end up with a crew cut.
So off to Boots I trot. Now, I can’t recall if I was hungover or had just completely taken leave of my senses but what did I choose to put on my hair. Out of the hundred products in their rows of aisles, I plumped for olive oil. What was I thinking? In my defence I did test a tiny dot on my hand and it smelt gorgeous and sank in without a trace. So olive oil it is.
Ors Olive Oil Heat Protection Serum to be precise.
The blurb: It helps to strengthen the hair while shielding it from damage caused by using heat styling tools. This serum will add moisture, while leaving the hair silky, shiny, and smooth.
The instructions: Apply evenly to damp or dry hair. Use heat tools to style hair as usual.
The end result: Oil slick. I look like I’ve poured olive oil over my head. Which effectively I have.
A smidgen of common sense prevailed on the one morning I tried this and I used the tiniest amount of product. But the very second it was on my hair I panicked how it would dry in. It didn’t. On the front of the bottle it claims to be ideal for use with heat styling tools. Hhhhmmmm? Not with a hair dryer. I blasted away so long the temperature was tropical. Oil going nowhere. So I tried the straighteners. The greasy locks just separated into individual oily strands.
So back to the blurb: Shiny and smooth. Oh without a shadow of a doubt. Silky? Not until I washed it out putting shampoo on before wetting my hair to make sure it cut through the grease.
Any positives: It wasn’t expensive and came with an 50% extra free. Anyone for salad dressing??
