Another beautiful day, another train station.
Today I’m off to London. A short drive to the station for two trains and a tube, same on the way back. For a one hour meeting. I had almost the same journey yesterday, six hours travel to and from London but I had meetings all day in the office.
It mightn’t sound like it but I’m not complaining. I work in a crazy office where after 8am it’s non-stop with phones, emails, meetings and (the bane of my life) instant messaging.
So 3 hours on the train can be uninterrupted bliss. I bring a stack of paperwork, set up a mini office and get so much done. I’ve completely given up on the annoyingly intermittent Wi-Fi signals so it’s peace and quiet all the way. I tend to feel quite calm and almost organised on arrival.
And the odd occasion when first class is cheaper than standard is very nice indeed, thank you. With the wheels waiting in the station, I can’t indulge in the alcoholic beverages but there’s plenty more to choose from.
Still, there’s not much glamour to travelling for work. Not much personal space in rush hour either. But it’s peaceful here in the Quiet Coach. Time for work.
